Following a brief hospital stay, former US President Jimmy Carter decided to spend time at home with his family and school, the Carter Center said in a statement Saturday.
The longest-serving former president has been suffering from a series of health challenges in recent years
Surviving cancer included hospitalization for a broken hip and a lacerated pelvis and urinary tract infection.
Grew up in rural Georgia and served as his state's governor before defeating incumbent Gerald Ford in the 1976 election
