The Hawks' Twitter account took a jab at the Heat, reminding them that they became the first seventh-place team to lose a game in the play-in tournament.
The Hawks dominated the boards, outrebounding Miami 63-39, including 22-6 on the offensive glass.
Atlanta's victory earned them a first-round matchup against the Boston Celtics.
The Heat will now host either Toronto or Chicago to decide the No. 8 seed and a spot against the top overall seed Milwaukee in Round 1.
The Marlins have won two World Series titles in the past but currently have a record of 2-6 in their last eight games.
The team will face a tough challenge against the Boston Celtics in the first round of the playoffs.
